Summer and Pool Maintenance
Owning a pool can be rewarding but it takes a great deal of work to keep that water crystal clear and just right for family and friends to take a dip. Summer months and the heat and rain that they bring can make it difficult to maintain chemical in the pool. While most everyone loves to get into water that is warm, heat and water quality don’t always mix well.

Most people are aware that you have to be very diligent when it comes to the upkeep of the pool and its chemicals. It is very vital to maintain chemical in the pool so that the pool will be safe for swimmer and as it will keep such things as bacteria, algae, mold and even bugs from taking up residence in the pool. The heat and water quality can be tricky so it is important that you check the water chemistry daily.

The sun in the summer can diminish the chemicals in the pool quickly. You will notice on hotter days that the chlorine in the pool will be down much lower then when it is a cooler day. There are many things that you can do to help maintain chemical in the pool but you have to be sure to certain things daily and certain things on a weekly basis.

You want to be sure to skim your pool to remove debris, insects and unwanted things from your pool. You will also need to check your filter regularly and either change the filter or backwash it as necessary and you will also want to clean the skimmer basket out regularly. It is also very helpful to use a vacuum on your pool to clean up the dirt and debris that settles on the bottom of the pool. Be not cleaning the pool, you will find that the walls as well as the floor will become slimy as mold, algae and bacteria start to grow.

Do not get a sense of false security if the heat has not been bad as such things as rain can be hard on the pool chemicals. You need to be sure that you are checking the chemicals in the pool daily if you are dealing with heavy rains. You will want to check the PH as well as the chlorine and the alkalinity. If you find that there is a great deal of heat and rain as well as swimmers then you should shock the pool regularly to keep the bacteria, algae and mold from growing in the pool. Just be sure to check the chemical balance in the pool, clean the filter and keep the water level up where it needs to be and you will have a pool that is happy and healthy for all to enjoy.
